Sociable Eating!

We had the eagle eyed bird ringers over on Saturday, led by Martin and his capable team along with most of the resident Canna and Rum wildlife experts, amateurs and fans. The ferry comes on a Saturday at 10.15am and the return ferry is at 6.30pm so after a day on the hills, wandering pastures and beaches, taking photographs, and wobbling on the edges of cliffs in search of young chicks to monitor and ring, the group headed back to the Gille at 4pm for cold beer, cider and a fabulous buffet spread created by us! Originally this was going to be a private function but inspiration hit (fairly late on it has to be said, but nonetheless it hit!) We decided to open this up to all the day-trippers, guests and residents on the island and it was a great success! After 5 weeks of just simply glorious weather, Saturday was … glorious. And the buffet idea caught on, everyone was chatting, mingling, eating and drinking in the sun!

SO we are now going to be trying this out as a summer feature… come to Canna on a Saturday, pop into the Gille Brighde after you arrive, pick up your ticket for the buffet £10 (and how about a packed lunch for the day?), come back to the restaurant from 4pm and relax, unwind, have a bit of a blether about your day and enjoy a ‘Taste of Canna’ Buffet…. read more on the Saturday Day Trip!

For really amazing photographs and more about the wilder side of life on this wee island do have a look at these blogs…one from our very own Graham at www.cannawildlife.blogspot.co.uk and a view from Rum with Mike at www.rangeringonrum.blogspot.co.uk

Really jealous of your weather. Our weather has been awful here in Cheshire (but not as bad as Wales this last few days!!). We have had one good weekend (and a bit) which was the last weekend in May which would normally have been a bank holiday so we didn’t even get to appreciate the good weather on the Monday.

Sounds like a great idea for Saturdays.

    All the best.
