Well…we have had to do a little fine-tuning of our opening hours I’m afraid… Whilst the 7 night a week opening is going fantastically, and is going to continue, we have had to shave a bit of the daytime cake time off around the rest of the day. I have had severe spondylolisthesis in my back for around a year and a bit (very long word for blooming sore slipped thingymibob and fractured spiney bits) with added sciatica for effect and unfortunately the final recourse of steroid injections and nerve block have not really worked this time round so in an effort to keep going until a rather scary operation in September we’ve had to make a few adjustments. With practically all the catering on the island being done by just myself and Aart, and of course our superhelp Olivia, we want to focus on serving the best food we can for lunch and dinner rather than sacrifice quality for the sake of overworking into a crumpled heap! The good news is that the community shop is up and running, you can get hot drinks, cupasoup, cakes and snacks there. Hopefully after a bit of a difficult year, the operation in September will be the start of better things to come… the recovery time will be spent plotting and planning for Xmas and New Year, and of course the next season. But, for now folks, I felt I should let you know our plans for this summer… a wee bit down but so not out!
Thanks for all your support as always..x
This has been a bit of an incredible journey and we thought we would share some of the realities of this journey with you. Most of the first few months have been quite simply hard work, and a steep learning curve! We have loved being here, and are continuing to enjoy the challenges and demands of setting up the business, but that is not all that we are here for. This island has captured our heart with its beauty and nature, life and people. It is home.
Our start on the island has been a point of interest with the media and we know that everyone has a story so here is ours...

I would be very grateful for a loan of a tens machine… I did have one before and it was helpful… even if just in forcing me to lie still for a while! And yep the weather here has been AMAZING, we are now on drought! seriously. It has been a bit grey and mizzly today but the last 4 months have been almost tropical, one week of rain and the rest hot hot hot sun. Even I am now wanting it to rain (preferably overnight of course) just to remember this is in fact a Scottish Island. we got your photos of your visit to Holland – you 2 are bonkers! Looking forward to proper catch-up, love to young adults for us and much hugs to ye both xx
